Junco Lagoon

-The largest natural freshwater reserve in the entire Galapagos archipelago, it is located in the crater of an extinct volcano. Now you know why the water of “San Cristóbal Capital del Paraíso” has a delicious flavor.

The Junco Lagoon

Its located 19 kilometers from Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, inside the caldera of a large volcano.

Laguna el Junco is the largest freshwater natural reserve in the Galapagos Archipelago , which is home to a large number of birds, being the favorite site of frigates that fly and pink its freshwater waters.

The name of the lagoon comes from a type of plant endemic to the Galapagos ( Eleocharis mutata, a member of the Cyperaceae family) that grows in its surroundings, called “Junco”.

It is an ideal place to observe birds, such as the peat-legged petrel, which is an endemic species of the Enchanted Islands.
