Laguna el Junco is the largest freshwater natural reserve in the Galapagos Archipelago , which is home to a large number of birds, being the favorite site of frigates that fly and pink its freshwater waters.
The name of the lagoon comes from a type of plant endemic to the Galapagos ( Eleocharis mutata, a member of the Cyperaceae family) that grows in its surroundings, called “Junco”.
It is an ideal place to observe birds, such as the peat-legged petrel, which is an endemic species of the Enchanted Islands.
