Santa Cruz Highlands tour

The first stop of this trip is a wonderful volcanic formation named “The Twins or Gemelos” a spectacular panoramic landscape surrounded by a Scalesia Forest, also is home of many land birds as Darwin finches.

The second stop of your visit it’s the Giant Tortoises Sanctuary, were many Giant Galapagos live on the wild.

Walk with Galapagos giant tortoises, see big craters and lava tunnels.

Fun Fact: The fastest tortoise can roam at 800 meters per day. . . On tour, you will learn more about the biodiversity of the Galápagos Islands.

The Twins: These two large pit craters along the road from Puerto Ayora to Baltra were caused by the collapse of empty magma chambers. We can stop along the side of the road and visit both craters, walking around their rims.

A circular trail to the larger crater passes through the beautiful Scalesia forest, which is an excellent place to observe terrestrial birds, including Vermilion Flycatchers, Short-eared Owls, the Galapagos Dove, and several finch species.

Giant Galapagos Tortoises: a walk less than 1 mile with big tortoises in their natural habitat.

Lava Tunnel: 0. 5 mile walk inside the tunnel as a kind of Indiana Jones movie. Formed by the solidified molten lava flow, the lava tunnels on Santa Cruz Island are abound. In some point we must cross on our knees as wild cats in one of those tunnels, we can avoid that one, but if you want to try it is fun!
